"VZMAKH" school was founded years ago. The school has got a licence for teaching students N B 473358 and government accreditation N 0011006. There are 350 children in our school aged from 1.5 to 17. The "VZMAKH" school is one of the best schools in the city. Every year we improve our teaching methods and programs. We have got the best teachers who are skilled, creative and professional. Many years our students win or get prizes in city’s Olympiads (in economy, literature, foreign languages, history and other subjects). We provide excellent basic education and have serious professional specializations as well. They are: "Economy and business" "Humanities and Law" "Management and Psychology" "Information science and technologies" The theory of every specialization is taught for 6-8 hours a week. The practice takes place in school corporations. Every year students work in real firms and companies for a month. Last 5 years their knowledge skills have usually got a high esteem by the leading city’s companies like "Russian trade-industrial bank", "American Express", Nestle food, Hermitage, TV 5 channel, "Business Petersburg" newspaper and others. For this moment, "VZMAKH" is one of the few private schools, which already has 11th classes ( pupils) graduated including students who got medals. 99% graduates of the school are students of Saint-Petersburg universities at the moment. More then 30% are students of Saint Petersburg State University (Economy Dept - 5 students, Law D – 5 students, Psychology D – 7 students, Management D - 9 students and there are some students on History, Sociology, Biology, Geography Depts). There are 14 people who study at different universities which are linked with computer science, programming and information technologies (IT). About 10% of graduates are students of University of Economy and Finance. 15% are students of LETI, Polytechnic University, and Academy of Engineering and Economy 20% are students of Saint-Petersburg Technical University, Baltic Government Technical University, Herzen Pedagogical University, etc. 3 graduates are students of Academy of Theatre 5 people go through postgraduate studies 6 people are students of universities of UK, Germany, USA and Canada Others study at different universities of our city By 20-25 years the main part of our graduates has already got some success in business and a certain society status. Usually they work as managers in big and respected companies of Saint-Petersburg and Moscow or run their own businesses. Among them are such people like the first deputy of the general director of "KIRGIZGAS" company, the head of the financial division of "HLEBNIY DOM" bakery, the leading specialist of the export division of "BALTIKA Brewery Company". The founder and the general accountant of "SECULAB" (antivirus programs), the general director of "GEONET" (publishing company), the founder and the general director of "ICEBERG" (sportswear brand) are our graduates as well. "VZMAKH" school is a republic and it is ruled by The Council of Fifteen. The Council operates the whole school’s activity. It can set new laws and make serious decisions, determines categories of payment for students, and supervises work with students entering business school. School administration has just one guaranteed place in the Council. While studying in "VZMAKH" students get experience of self-management and legislative work participating in the leader - group and simply by living here. Even the curriculum is an agreement between students and teachers. "The declaration of rights and freedoms", the internal school legislation, the school economic legislation - all these documents were written, discussed and approved by our students. Working in school corporations and taking part in economic life makes our students prepared for successful life in the modern society. Our students They are free, relaxed and kind, not afraid of adults, able to get along with classmates. Our students are vigorous, enterprising and self-confident, can work really hard and pass exams. They speak English fluently. They can enter any university without any problems and will never become clients of the labor exchange! Our teachers 39% of our teachers are males. 100% of our teachers have got higher education, 18% are candidates of science. It’s difficult to study here. First of all, we do study a lot! Every day children have 4-5 lectures (every lecture is 90 minutes, like at the university) and at the end of every semester they have a session with numerous tests and exams. We almost do not have holidays and we work on Saturdays. You think students could be bored? Not at all! It’s very interesting to study at "VZMAKH" so children who could hardly stay for 5 lessons in an usual school can study with a great interest even on the fifth lecture. In the humanitarian classes students learn 2-3 foreign languages. They have 10 hours of English a week and students can pass "Cambridge First Certificate" exam before they graduate (99.9% passed the exam). We seriously learn History and Literature. There are many special humanitarian courses available. In our business classes we deeply learn exact sciences: Math and Physics. Information science and economy are taught on a very high level in our school. We do not forget about foreign languages as well- at least 6 hours a week. This solid basement provides passing exams to the best Saint-Petersburg’s universities. Students who are in the 11th grade prepare for the exams in the small groups or individually. There are more than 10 joint-stock companies and many different student firms which do not just play games but really work. We have our own school bank, exchange, mass-media corporation, cinema club, advertising agency, theatre and many other corporations. School exchange holds tenders (almost all our companies have shares) every day. The bank has accounts of many artificial persons and students. The payment for school depends on your progress in studying and successful participating in school business life. We traditionally participate in many economy computer games (MEM, MEKOM, "Banks in action" (we took 5th and 9th places in 2000). In 2001 we got the semifinal in the world MEM championship by Hewlett Packard and we are among 64 best teams of the world (there were more than 900 teams in the competition). In 2002 MEM contest our team took first place out of whole NORTH-WEST region. That’s why Saint-Petersburg Contract Exchange is interested in working with us. There is a program of real time tenders installing in our computer class which lets students to participate in bidding. When our students finish this course they get a broker certificate which allows them to work on Russian exchanges. Every June, after have passed all the exams, our business school students start their "real business activity". The greater part works in different companies of our city. Humanitarians like to work for newspapers ("Business Petersburg", "Rush Hour", "Vedomosti") on TV (TV-5 channel) or in such well-known places like Hermitage, Anna Akhmatova’s Art Museum or in archives of the Academy of Sciences. Economists work in banks ( Russian Trade Industrial Bank), Insurance companies ("Rostok", "Capital-polis"), do marketing research ("Nestle food" and "Poljot-3000") or Gallup polls ("Russia on-line" and "Ascotel info") find new clients and customers ("American Express" and "Yellow Pages") so they learn how to apply their skills in real life. There is a lot of real and important work inside our school. Students of the 7th and 8th grades usually start their career here. They do not have much experience so older students supervise their work. Students plan and carry out advertising create data bases, make some business games. They write programs for the school bank and tenders or write articles for our newspaper. By the way this Internet site was created during practice period as well. So when students graduate from school they’ve already had serious experience in real work. That’s why our graduates never have problems with choosing their professions and they get success in business quite fast. We are sure that "knowledge for knowledge" is a wrong statement. We need knowledge only for using it in practice. Our unique business games (300-400 participants, 10-15 correlative processes) are designed to help students to learn all main aspects of modern economics. We run these games 3-4 times a year at least so students can pass all the way starting as usual participants and finishing as creators and game designers. Every year we work out new advanced games. This year we worked out a game which creates a model of macroeconomic processes, one of our games have been used for city’s economy Olympiads for 7 years already. We also organized RUSSIAN OPEN (business games championship). IF YOU WANT TO BE SUCCESSFUL YOU HAVE TO WORK HARD AND KNOW HOW TO WIN. Our primary school is for 1-6 grades. This is a place where children are not scared but interested in studying and have a lot of fun. High level of education and two foreign languages are not easy for children but they study with a great interest and pleasure. The main things which distinguish our primary school from others are: -high level of education -interest in foreign languages -psychologically comfortable atmosphere -educational process itself -over educational activities We study under the program "SCHOOL 2000". The author of the primary school’s math program is L.Peterson. It’s a difficult program but from the first steps it builds the basement for the high school. We have all the usual school’s subjects but we also study such things like valeology, Bible studies, mythology, information science, Saint-Petersburg’s history and culture. It’s very important for us to raise not only well-educated but erudite and broadminded people. Learning foreign languages is very important for our school. Children have English lessons every day even on the first grade. We use British textbooks and our own materials and developments. We use the same books, notebooks, materials and videotapes as British schools use, read English literature, use multiple computer programs. Our goal is to learn the language not just through the hard work and cramming but through the interesting, creative and funny activities. It helps children to forget that they communicate on an unknown and different language and take studying process as a game. We have special "long days" in our primary school. During 3-4 hours children have to use (they read, write, speak and play) only English. Everyone in the primary school is an actor of our English Theatre. The theatre has two new plays every year but it is another story. Children start learning French or German at their 3rd grade. We think that learning many languages is not difficult at all especially for OUR students. There are not as few students in our classes as at usual private schools. There are about 12-20 students in the class. We like big classes and think that children should learn how to live and work in big groups, how to get along with people. We don’t use a mark like a reward or a punishment. It is a kind of useful feedback. Lessons must be interesting and informative but not boring and stressing. There is one more important thing which we practice in the school -every student shouldn’t be afraid of -having its own point of view - being right or wrong - going to the blackboard and telling his opinion Emotional comfort is one of the most important things in the successful educational process. That’s why we DO care about relationship between teachers and students which should be supportive and friendly. Our teachers are young and jolly people with solid experience in teaching children. We have special courses (psycho gymnastics, basics of safe communication, conflictology) which give our students better self understanding, help to find new friends and solve the problems. The psychologists of our "VZMAKH" centre participate a lot in primary school’s life. They guide individual and group trainings, work with classes and students who have problems in studying and life. Every student knows that if he has any problem he can always ask for help. Lessons in our school are not boring at all. They are always interesting, exiting, competitive and quite unusual. Sometimes we discuss or do some research on the topic or the subject (astronomy, biology, literature) for the whole day or even several days. Sometimes the lesson is a real competition, sometimes a discussion and sometimes a courtyard (it could be a trial about Lenin or Raskolnikov). We often study outside the school (Hermitage or "Letniy Sad" Garden, the Zoo or the Planetarium. We can approve new laws or set new rules; we can carry on a research or even go on a trip to "terra incognita". Such games as "Brain ring", KVN Movement or different Olympiads are not lessons but if you want to win you have to know a lot. Many students stay at school after their classes because there is always something interesting for any age (chess, English club, computer club, aerobics, origami, karate, music, choreography). The studio of fine arts opens after the classes. The director of the studio and the teacher of fine arts is Averjanova Elena Borisovna who won the contest to copy designs of the French parks of the XVII century in 2000. She really helps to open new talents and our children take part in every big contest of children’s sketches. In 98-99 we got 40 diplomas at the international Lipton’s contest. In 1999-2000 at the British council contest "British humor and British music" we took 5 first places out of 6. The same year 5 our students got the final of the "PLASTBURG" company contest "I’m dreaming by the window". |

Our college is real small England for Saint Petersburg’s kids! Everyone in the college speaks only English. Games, walks, studying and conversations are all in English. Toys, books, special literature, video and computer programs DO make kids speak the language. Children are not afraid of speaking and they haven’t got any problems with phonetics. By 6 years they can understand even native speakers, read English words and speak English fluently without any Slavic accent.
College has been working for 9 years, our first “little graduates” are of the 7th and 8th grades now, able to speak several languages and their progress makes us happy and proud. Our groups: Junior "Sunny Chickens" (1.5-2 years). Middle "Funny Bunnies" (2-3 years). Senior "Busy Bees" (4-5 years). Preschool "Little stars" (5-6 years). There are 10-12 kids studying in a group. Every group has two tutors and some extra teachers for the lessons. Kids stay at college from 9 till 6. At the beginning of the day we do some serious activities: learn English, French, learn how to read, write and speak. We call it “lessons”, but it doesn’t look like lessons at all. We play games, paint drawings, run and have a lot of fun. But every activity has its own meaning and goal. Of course after all those activities we relax, eat, go for a walk, and sleep. But only two youngest groups have to sleep others have some rest (read, talk, paint or dream…). After the rest, in the afternoon, we do some Art. During these hours kids dance, sing, draw or do some exercises for their mental and physical health. Some kids can stay at the college even after 6 p.m. Our program includes -Spoken English, grammar, reading, writing -Art, choreography, crafts, psychological games -Math, computer, History (England and USA), Ecology, Geography, History of Art, Social studies. All this subjects are taught in English Education program in Russian (Russian language, reading, calligraphy) is taught in the afternoon. All lessons including the preschool are carried out as games. The studying goes on in a special English class where some subjects are taught in English The studios of our college: choral, choreography, fine arts, music (piano, guitar, flute). Many kids from these studios participate in exhibitions and play on concerts. We like American and European traditions, but don’t forget about the Russian history as well. We like to celebrate Thanksgiving Day, Christmas, Halloween, Politeness Day, St. Valentine’s Day and others. We have some holidays which take place only in our school. We have got special holidays, which you can’t find anywhere else: "Happy to See You Again" (celebration of the first working day in college), "Day of The College Graduates" (our graduates from the first grade come to see us and drink some tea, tell us about their new school life). We do take care about children’s health! We carry out some physical training, some preventive procedures, respiratory gymnastics and flat foot correction groups. Services of the logopedist, massage procedures and the pediatrist are also available for our kids. There is a kind of home atmosphere in our college. We also have a psychologist for each group. Kids know him and are sure that they can ask for his help in any difficult situation. Psychologists help kids to solve their problems, get along with each other and grow as mentally sane people. A few words about the college for little kids “Rikki-Tikki-Tavi” (for children from 2.5 to 7 years) If you aren’t ready to take a preschool child to school every day, it means that this subdivision is for you. We have lessons 3 times a week for 2.5-4 hours a day. Everything for getting ready for school: - Reading, calculation, English - Speech therapy, psychological training Everything to make kids interested - Young, cheerful and very experienced teachers - Small, comfortable groups - New authoring and methods - All subjects and materials are taught as funny and interesting games Everything for kids’ esthetic development - Music and dance classes - Choir - Fine arts - Music school There are 12 additional courses by parents’ and children’s choice: Folklore and folk games, origami, Bible studying, chess and many others. On entering "Rikki-Tikki-Tavi" all kids are tested on their knowledge and skills, this testing takes place every three months. At regular intervals we have consultations for parents with a psychologist of the group. |
